i bought some Red Star pullets several months back in order to get some reliable egg-layers. Then several weeks back, at about 5 months old, we started getting eggs. First it was one egg a day, then two, then three. Finally, about 5 days ago, we got four eggs in one day! Wooooo Hoooooo! Bonanza! Then, every day since then, just one egg.
i am not seeing any evidence of egg-eating, unless they have a loaf of bread hidden out there with which they're sopping up every last morsel. They are in an enclosed area with no chance of hiding eggs. What on earth is going on? Why would they start, lay a couple days, then quit altogether? i am going out there every 45 minutes to an hour to check on them.
This is so frustrating! My dreams of plenty of eggs for deviled eggs, pickled eggs, quiches, omelets, and egg salad sandwiches are being dashed to smithereens!
