4 week old chick eating pine chips?

My buff orpington "dolly" has been eating small wood chip shavings, they are pine. Is this bad for her? She eats her regular food fine but I've also noticed that her crop looks a bit bigger then the others (I could be wrong). What should I do?

They tend to do this, at least in little bits, that's why I make sure they get some grit as soon as they are on shavings.

I have parakeet grit, Should I get one that's made for chicks? What size?

As long as it doesn't include oyster shell, or another calcium source.
It's cheap everywhere anyway. Or give them some sandy soil from your yard. Mary

Mine has added calcium carbonate in it, I'll go buy some with out it. Thanks for the advice!

I use pine shavings, sold in bales for horse bedding. Then some bits of hay or straw.
I don't rake leaves in fall, so have no bags of dried leaves to use, like some folks like.
