Hello everyone,

We have a 4-week old light brahma who is 1/2 the size of the rest of the flock, constantly shaking, missing feather on its neck, and overall lethargic.

It seems to be anti-social or scared of the rest of the flock as it is often away from everyone. Additionally, there seem to be no mites or lice and the neck isn’t bleeding where feathers are missing.

There are 16 chickens in an 8x8 coop with access outside to a 20x20 area. The floor is Doug fir. They were all vaccinated when hatched.

We have quarantined the chicken in hopes that it was just getting bullied and needed time on its own to grow. Is this the correct approach? Thank you.

Placing it in a wire dog crate, but in plain view of the rest of the flock with it’s own food and water would be best. Put some poultry vitamins in it’s water. Offer chopped soft egg, and try wetting some feed to help it gain weight. Coccidiosis can be a common quite of failing to thrive, so you may want to get a fecal test on some droppings by your vet, or start some Corid in the water.

Thank you for your feedback. We made a quick wood frame and chicken wire box so it could be in the coop with the others. After a few days, it still has barely eaten. I’ll look around the forums for other options on how to get it to eat.
