I have 5 chicks at the age of 8 weeks. Now my question is this when is it fine to put them outside in a coop in 40 degrees weather. Their in the shop in a green teepee cage with heatlamp over them right now sharing heat with 5week old chicks.

Mine are weened from heat long before 8 weeks. In spring when I hatch they go outside with highs in the 50's and lows in 30's at 4 weeks. Though are weened from heat early and live inside third week without additional heat, house is at 65F. They need that 90 degrees first week then I raise the lamp for second week and start turning it off days end of second beginning of third week to no light at all end of third. They feather in faster and acclimate to cooler temperature. I'd ween yours then put them in coop after a few days.
