    [IMG] Welcome, and there is so much to learn but don't worry..you've come to the right place at BYC forum. The best place to begin is at the BYC homepage. If you look there then you will see that there is a link called "Raising Chickens 101." Begin there and continue on to the link titled "Learning Center." When strange things happen, that this does not cover I next look in the blue bar and there is a search button. Lordy, I wear it out. You can post, post, and soon you will be meeting many friends, and yes, even in your area. We will help so don't worry, enjoy the chicks and the best, best advice....get a lawn chair. And don't forget...this bunch loves pics!

    Oh, and you will get addicted....don't try to fight it, give in. [IMG]

    I work in Extension and so I found these online videos from LSU:

    Handling Poultry:

    Broiler Showmanship
    http://www.lsuagcenter.com/en/crops...ts/Fun+With+Chickens++Broiler+Showmanship.htm

    Poultry Exhibition Showmanship

    Broiler Project Guidelines
    http://www.lsuagcenter.com/en/crops...Youth+Projects/Broiler+Project+Guidelines.htm

    This is pretty interesting...Fast Chicks Gain More Weight
    http://www.lsuagcenter.com/en/crops...zeing+Growth+Fast+Chicks+Gain+More+Weight.htm

    I judged recordbooks for the last 2 years' broiler projects...keep really good records on rate of gain and feed costs. FEED your broilers enough. They should make weight in 7 weeks. I've had kid after kid show up who didn't feed their birds adequately and so the birds were smallish and didn't have a good breast size.
