    Hello,

This is my first time raising chickens. I have ten of them that are 4 weeks old. Last night before bed all of my chicks were acting totally normal. This morning I checked on them and one of my Golden-laced Wyandottes is very lethargic. She has just been standing with her eyes closed most of the day. I haven't seen her drinking any water or eating and she has been walking around hardly at all. I watched her poop and it was white mucus-like with very little brown. The place I bought her from said their chicks were vaccinated, so to my knowledge she shouldn't have Coccidiosis. There are no other older chickens around.

    Info on diet and brooder:
The ten of them are in a 5ft swimming pool with cardboard walls, so they have plenty of room. The floor is covered with pine shavings which I change out twice a week. There waterer is elevated so that they can't spill it or poop in it. I change the water twice a day. They're eating Nutrena Nature Wise Chick Starter. I started giving them granite chick grit at 2 weeks and introduced them to lettuce, which they didn't eat much of. Last week I gave them little worms from my yard/garden, which they all loved and I have also been placing a 4"x4" piece of sod from the lawn in with them every other day, which they also love. Today I gave them a little oatmeal. They are sure what to think of it. Six of the ten chicks were vaccinated, other four were bought from a store which did not vaccinate, but this one is vaccinated anyhow. I'm going to change out all of the bedding right now and put her in her own little corner and try to get her to drink some sugar water. Any suggestions on what it might be or anything else to try?

If you gave them worms from your yard then it looks like your chick may have cocci. Before you say "but they were vaccinated..." Cocci has several different strains (like 9, I think). The vaccine is only effective on the strains that were vaccinated against. I would treat the chick.

    Good luck.

Thanks for your input. I agree. I was actually wrong. She isn't vaccinated. It was the Silver-laced that were, not the Golden-laced. I knew her symptoms were like Cocci and once I started to read more about it I figured it could have been from the worms or from the sod I started to put in there. I'm going to go buy some Corid or Amprol this morning. I was going to just treat the four of them that aren't vaccinated, do you think I should just give the treated water to all ten of them?

Treating them all won't hurt them.
