A healthy chick that hatched in our coop (the only one that hatched) has a horrible injury. It seems like his/her leg got caught and cut somehow. the cut is where the leg meets the body. Poor little thing is walking and limping and peeping. I tried to give it some cooked egg and it's not interested in eating. It is with a mother hen and she is trying to encourage it to eat as well.. The blood is dried and the hen isn't picking at it. Would you leave the chick with the mother hen or isolate? I'm afraid isolating it would be stressful. It is the only chick with this hen.
(I have other "bought" chicks with other hens)
Advice, please?

Can you tell if it's just a cut or is it deeper? You might need to wash it off and apply a little neosporin
I can't tell. I know it's bad enough. I brought him in and applied the antibiotic cream and took him back to his mom.
They have a "broody box" they sleep in at night and it's inside a covered dog kennel they hang out in during the day. The problem is, it's on dirt and whatever is on the ground.
He limped around and pecked at the ground a few times--either for chick food or bits of eggs....or maybe he was just doing it to make the hen happy. I'll come back with pictures. I have them on my phone. Thanks for your reply.
