Hi Got 5 orphaned feral kittens today and all is going well. Darby (Mom to all "babies" here) got a dose of WHY it is not a good idea to keep licking all the new babies. I was stimulating after bottle feeding and she thought she'd 'help'. A little male shot a stream of urine right UP HER NOSE! Darby is still snuffling and snorting and I'm laughing.
This is the dog that tried to take the homemade soap and hide it because she heard me call it "baby soap".
But (no pun intended) she'll be right there wanting to tend all the new babies next time. I thought she might have a breakbown over a dead baby squirrell we found in a chicken pen. We have a 'bottle-baby' squirrel that she *thinks* is hers.

I just love dogs that are like that. The last momma dog I had was Peachy a Shar-Pei. She would clean and love on any baby animal.
It sounds like you have a special gal there!

Awwwww!! That dog sounds like a real keeper!!

My mom had a bernese mountain dog that was like that. He actually brought us orphaned kittens and cottontails without harming them. Some of the cottontails even made it to release after being in his mouth. He did chill some kittens by over slobbering them on a cool spring day while gathering them in the yard but they recovered fine. The mother kept losing them in the building and not caring for them. We'd already rescued them once when they fell behind hay bales and she couldn't get them back. He must have decided it was time to take them away from her after all the frequent crying they did.

Our Emma thinks the Silkie chick is hers.... they spend a lot of time together, the silkie sticks her head under Emma's leg (Emma is an 8lb mini dachshun so her legs are LOW) and sits there with her butt in the air and her head under her "momma's wing"
