I have a 5 week old Barred Rock chick, my slowest to feather! It is one of our sweetest ones though. Dark legs, comb is just starting to grow which is why I’m starting to wonder, barely any tail still! Seems like darker pattern but wanted your opinion on whether we are looking at a girl or boy! Thanks!

It’s a Cuckoo Marans. It looks kinda boyish, girls would have smaller combs and less white.

I never even thought it was anything different (I'm new to the breeds and it was sold as a barred rock so never questioned it), it does have pinkish feet! Definitely curious now how the rest of the feathers come in, they are coming in all over now. It is a very sweet chick, snuggles with us when given the chance.

Lol! People always say that the boys are the sweetest.

NO red wattles coming in yet.. black still looks wider than the white barring to ME.. Going with no sign of cockerel that I can see.

Still looks like a pullet.. red wattles come in before the red comb.. and there's NO red in the comb yet either.

Hopeful for ya! :fl
Thank you!! Me too...I feel like I'm on eternal comb watch lol. And I don't see much as far as wattles go yet...I think the next 2 weeks will tell us!
