I went in to check on my chicks today, they are still in the brooder but they are rapidly outgrowing it - the coop should be done in a few days I just need to get the door properly on and buy some sand... but I took our white EE out to see how she was doing and she started panting like crazy and at one point sneezed on me. She seems otherwise healthy, she was running around with the rest, eating and drinking, but most of the time I was holding her she was panting but was otherwise calm! She even nestled into my hand at one point. When I put her back in she continued panting. I'm not sure if she was panting before I took her out or not.
It's not hot in the brooder, the light's been off for a week and it's 74 degrees in the house, with the windows open. (it might be slightly warmer in that room since the door is shut and the sun was coming in this afternoon, but not more than 80) The brooder does not smell, though it could be cleaner, we've been holding off on cleaning as they'll be out very soon.
The other 4 chicks are not panting. Which just makes it all the weirder!
I must say, it is pretty cute when their little tongues pant, but scary!
