5 weeks olds eat grass, time for grit?

They were eating some grass yesterday. Can I give them sand out of the sandbox?

Sure, you can give them sand. Some people start giving their chicks grit when they're 2 or 3 days old, so I think you'll be all right!

When my chicks were little, I bought Parakeet grit at the grocery store. It's like sand. I mixed it into their food, just a little bit every time I filled the feeder.

If you give them sand from the sandbox, be sure that it has no chemicals or anything in it that could hurt them. I think Play Sand, like the kind Lowe's sells, should be okay.

you can provide grit for them, they'll only eat it if they need it. they won't eat it for food if there is food available.
