Ok so I have 6 production Rhode Island Red hens that are 6 months old(and a rooster). One of them will go broody and sit on eggs from 6:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. She has done this for several days. as soon as the lights go out in the coop/evening, she leaves the nest. Are the lights going off the reason she gets off the nest? When she's on the nest she hunkers down, hisses and makes broody noises in general. Mine are pretty docile and none of them have ever pecked me. Any reason other than broodiness that she would spend so long on the nest? I am really hoping she stays broody, so I don't have to buy $100 incubator. Please help! All the best, Clay.
