They aren't due to hatch until Friday.

There was a reminder to set eggs for chickens as close to Noon as possible on December 11

@Scottyhorse asked about raising chicks in cold places. @Avlana said to keep them indoors longer. @Chicken Picken will sell a bunch and keep some inside. @coldupnorth will keep them in the basement, then garage and then out with heat as the chicks grow. @Pozees broods chicks in the crawl space under the house.

Many of us like Mottled Chickens!

@tadpole98 is hatching Mottled Cochins! @mstricer has some hatching on Wednesday. @Cynthia12 posted a picture of a Mottled Java in post 442

There was a discussion about hatching chicks from a red sexlink flock. Productivity may be lower. I bet they will be great chickens!

We talked about building incubators and what incubators we are using. Most of us seem to be using smaller incubators for this hatch. @SunnySkies told us to make sure to air dry styrafoam incubators away from the chickens...apparently they look tasty to chickens....

Marans were discussed. Some have problems hatching marans while others hatch them very well. They are in the middle for me...Penedesencas have skunked me though....

@Aphrael missed an auction for Ameraucana eggs but found Swedish Flower Hens hatching eggs! @Avlana wants to add some fancy breeds this year! barnevelder, vorwerks and campines!

@carriebain is really really ready to hatch some chicks!

@chiqita said to ask GQF to send Coturnix instead of Bob White Quail if desired. Call them.

hey! just wanted to pop in and say good luck! I am running out of eggs but still have a few left. I have an ad up in the BST listing and it is up to date as of last night. the Marans are spoken for and the SBEL too I THINK. I will not have any left for me to hatch at this rate. haha

Well just got done putting rope lights in the Silkied Ameraucana pen, and covering one of the d'Uccle runs in plastic. It took me two hours to convince myself to get up out of the warm house and go out in the cold to get some work done out there. I volunteered to work my days off 1/2 day today and all day tomorrow. I was used to having huge checks all summer and when it got to me not getting forced to work I stayed home and relaxed but now I missed the money (time and half on 6th day, double pay on 7th) so now I'm just going to work until it runs out, with the holidays it doesn't look like it is going to. Then come February it will kick back in for real and I won't have a chose.

the lights work and they start to shoot some eggs to me.

they are coming out of molt and so far not fertile but if that changes I will offer those too. I love my barred rocks too. I will have blue black and splash next spring....not barred solid colors....yeah!
