6 month old chickens

I have not gotten a feeder yet. I just got my chickens a month ago. At first I was feeding them 4 to 6 cups of chick starter a day. I have 11 chickens. Then they acted like they were starving to death so I upped it to 8 then 10 cups. Now they want to eat the grass instead of the chick starter and I think they are starting to lay. Should I change to layer food and oyster shell? I'm getting a feeder also.

Start offering oyster shell in a separate container. When they're all laying, switch to layer.

I would switch to a layer pellet after you use up your grower feed if they are starting to lay.
