YAY We have 6 new guinea pig babies tonight. Sunny had 7 babies six months ago, but only one survived birth. She didn't get the rest cleaned up, and we got home just after the litter was born. This time, we heard the first one squeak, and got there just as #'s 2 and 3 were born. I was able to get the sac off of each baby's face, and rub them until they started breathing, and they're all doing well.

These are my daughter's guinea pigs, and she's sleeping on the floor by their box tonight. Well, laying there, trying to sleep, kind of...

We've got homes for a couple of them already, and will start searching for homes for the rest tomorrow. Wish us luck finding them great homes!

Here's mama, Sunny, in the middle of birthing:

This is the one that survived from the first litter, washed out from too much flash:

    And here are the rest:

    super cute!!

What kind of bedding are they on almost looks like cedar with the more red chips in there which can cause major respiratory issues and burn their feet. Kiln dried pine or aspen work well they are just "white" in color.

Quote:Thanks, I wondered about that. When I went shopping for wood chips last time, there were no pine shavings so I bought the cedar. I'll go shopping for pine tomorrow...

Your 8th pic - that one is cutest !
    I used to raise pigs.
I had certain colors and/or patterns going on.

    My faves were:
Solid Agouti colors (I liked the smooth)- it was hard for me to breed for solid eye rings
Smooth Dutch colored head/pure white body
Smooth Solid face (color only on face)/pure white body

I had a Smooth male that looked somewhat like a Champagne color - that was his name.
I had a Smooth male that was red/grey (roan?) colored.
With these males, I put in females with unusual colors/patterns.

I had wavy (Textel ?). (I didn't like those when they showed up in litters), I always gave them away.
I had what you have, with rosettes all over in one of the Agouti lines. (Male with Smooth female).

I certainly had my faves. I still am thinking about getting back into them.
