Hi there, wondering if anyone can help with the gender of this little one, 6 weeks old.
kind of hard to tell from a distance, i guess pullet
I cant see it very well but..... Pullet
Could you possibly get a close picture of the back of the bird? Boys start developing long, skinny saddle and hackle feathers that are a dead giveaway. At least I've found the pea comb to be rather unreliable in sexing a young bird. Some people say that if there are three rows of 'peas' in the comb, than it is an automatic boy. However, I've had girls with three very clear rows of peas in the comb.
My guess would also be pullet from the body shape.
I am not an expert but she seems like a pullet to me - i read in another thread a while back that roosters usually get brown/red/yellow feathers on the shoulders/chest/back and/or are distinctly black and white.
see link below:
i am not sure this applies to pure breed Ameraucanas though.
looks like a cockerel to me
to me it looks like a pullet but with those pics its hard to tell
My daughter took the ones above; I'll try to get a better one of the back end tomorrow. Thanks!
OK, sorry for the background, but hopefully you all can see the 'backend' of this little sweetie. Any more guesses/predictions? I am hoping for a pullet. (Duh.) Otherwise we'll be eating this little cutie.
Looks like a pullet to me. I see no signs of it being a cockerel at this point.
