My 7 month old Wyandotte who normally eats like a horse started acting a little funny the night before last. She had her mouth gaping open and was closing her eyes a lot, like she was very sleepy. She was not interested in their afternoon treats. The next morning I found her lying under the ramp to the nesting boxes, so I took her into our mud room, a place she is very comfortable and loves to be. She barely ate, and mouth was still gaping. Her crop was still fairly empty, as the late afternoon before, when it would usually be full. I called the vet and we started her on panacur for possible gape worms, and an antibiotic (SMZ) just in case of infection anywhere. My mother got her to eat some very small parakeet feed that I normally mix up with other stuff as their treat. I tried scrambled egg and crumble, as well as regular food and cracked corn.
She was very sleepy all day yesterday. She had first dose of panacur yesterday and two doses of antibiotic, as well as electrolytes in the water. She did roost in the mud room, but she does not seem any better this morning. Her poops look basically normal. But she won't eat for me this morning. I tried oatmeal, crumble, crumble mashed up with water, tiny seeds (which she seems to be able to take down better), and nothing. She's still very lethargic. I am at a loss what to do here. Millly is an amazing pet that I raised since she was 3 weeks old, and I am scared I am going to lose her.
Any advice?
