It's the last photo op of the year! The girls have had all of three days with snow, and as of now it's all melted off. Unfortunately (as you'll see by the spikiness of the Easter-egger's beards), it has left mud in its wake. Everywhere.

Most of them have started laying, and I'll make note of who has and who hasn't. Everyone with a beard (no matter how muddy) is an Easter-Egger, and everyone with bars is a Barred Rock. Enjoy!

Betty

This girl laid her first egg yesterday, but she had to do it in a unique way. I found her stuck sideways in a 3-inch gap behind the nest boxes, a little green-turquoise egg beneath her.

She's always giving me this look.

Betty's beard is quite interesting to the other Easter-eggers.

Cressida
Cressy8mopose.jpg

Cressy is the eye candy of the lot, and also the first of the Easter-Eggers to lay an egg. She lays pretty olive eggs almost every day, usually while jammed side-by-side in a cat litter bucket with Cricket.

Cressy8moface.jpg

Those pretty eyes and that big, bright pink comb!

Cricket
Cricket8mopose.jpg

That comb shot up this past month and she finally started laying little ping-pong-ball shaped tan eggs.

Cricket8moface.jpg

Looks like she needs a napkin.

Debra Jo

Oh, I love this girl! She is so big, but skinny-butted! She lays a narrow, pointed, pinkish-tan egg.

DebraJodivalook.jpg

The classic 'Debra Jo Diva Look'.

DebraJo8moface.jpg

Love the big wattles and comb!

Diana
Diana8mopose.jpg

My first little egg-layer, she lays a pinkish-tan egg. She's my naughty roving nest-maker, but since they are no longer free-ranging (EDIT: for the year, not permanently!

), she's begrudgingly accepted the nest boxes as her laying place.

Diana8moface.jpg

Her comb shrank a bit since that first snow. I'm not sure if she's actually laying right now or not.

Dianahopingforthespotlight.jpg

She was also REALLY looking for attention today. She was focused on the camera!

Freema
Freema8mopose.jpg

I'm just totally in love with this girl! She follows me everywhere, always wants to be on my lap, loves her cuddles, and she's so smart, too!

Freema8moface.jpg

Her comb and wattles are growing. She may lay her first egg soon!

Freemaputthecamdown.jpg

"Put the camera down and give me my hugs, darn it!"

Kate
Kate8mopose.jpg

My little worrier. She is not laying yet, and she's super-duper shy.

Kate8molook.jpg

This is her, 'come any closer and I'm running,' look.

Kateworrylines.jpg

She did something out of character today, though. She walked right up to me, let me scratch her chest, and posed for a WAY-UP-CLOSE picture. Look, you can even see her worry lines!

Maggie
Maggie8mopose.jpg

She's the smallest of the lot and has yet to lay an egg, but she's got enough sass to make up for it. And she made me work for these pictures, by golly!

Maggie8moface.jpg

"Okay, last one and that's it!"

Mako
Mako8mopose.jpg

She's the second Easter-egger to lay, and she lays a pretty turquoise egg. She's so fluffy, too!

Mako8moface.jpg

A little too much time pecking in the mud, I think.

Makomudbeard.jpg

If she were a pirate, she would be called Mudbeard.

Natalie
Natalie8mopose.jpg

Natalie lays a nice, pointy egg about every three days. She's probably the quietest about it, too.

Natalie8moface.jpg

Not even a word of complaint when I put the camera in her face. What a trooper!

Wynne
Wynne8mopose.jpg

My little owly-Easter-egger. She's had that feather askew in her tail for weeks now...

Wynne8moface.jpg

She always looks really closely at the camera.

Wynneprettyeye.jpg

Really closely...
