This chick is 8 weeks old today. It hatched from a blue egg under my broody and came from a mixed flock. I believe it is some sort of Easter Egger. I think she is a pullet, but I wanted to get your opinions.

Also....if she came from a blue egg, does that mean she will lay blue eggs?

And do you think she will stay black in color? The friends I got the egg from don’t have any solid black birds in their flock, so I was wondering.

She's a pullet. I'd guess she'd stay black. What color birds do your friends have?

Also....if she came from a blue egg, does that mean she will lay blue eggs?
Depends. Assuming her mother is o/o, depeding on the father's genes I'd guess she'd probably lay some shade of green. But she could lay blue, again depending on the dad. If her mother is o/O+, she could lay a brown or a cream for example, or again a shade kf green. Just depends.

If I had to bet I'd guess she'll lay some sort of green, ranging from mint, to aqua, to olive. Depending on dad.

Do you know what mama was? Was she a mix or a purebred?

I would think that the color of egg that she will lay also depends on what color the father would have layed if he would have been a hen. We already know that the mother layed blue egg's.
But if the mom was an Ameraucana, the chick will lay green/slightly blue no matter who the dad was. Same goes for the dad. If the dad was a CCLB, the same will occur.

High chance the bird will lay blue or green though.

Here are some updated pics of Pepper, who is now 12 weeks old. It’s interesting how Easter Eggers can resemble hawks.

If you haven’t read this thread from the beginning, please take a look! This chick’s parents were not solid black as you can see in the pics provided. I believe she is a she...and I’m hoping she will lay blue eggs like the egg she hatched out of! :)

I was able to get some pics of the birdies from my friend’s mixed flock- where my hatching eggs came from.

She thinks this is Pepper’s mama. She is an Easter Egger, so no, she’s not a purebred. She lays light blue eggs.

She thinks this rooster is the dad. I’m not sure what breed he is- I can’t remember what she said.

Neither mama or dad are solid black like my little Pepper though. Look at this pic of the rooster’s sister. My friend thinks that the above pictured rooster is Pepper’s dad because his sister has a lot of black colored feathers. Would you guys agree?

Also, Pepper has light feathering on her legs. The rooster pictured and his sister both have feathered legs. He is one of four roosters in their flock. The only other rooster to have feathered legs in their flock is a Silkie. The mama does not have feathered legs.

Hi guys, curious to know your opinions on the pics I posted of little Pepper’s mama and papa and papa’s sister.

I hope Pepper will have the blue egg gene! I wonder how she got her solid black coloring when her parents weren’t solid black. Genetics are so interesting!
