8 week old chick with one eye closed, slightly lethargic

I noticed today that one of my 8 week old chicks kept closing one eye and seems slightly lethargic, still eating, pecking and drinking but will just randomly stand and sleep or lay and sleep in the run. I moved her into the coop and she slept there for a bit and then I decided to separate her into a crate. She was pretty perky in there and acting normal for the most part and eating and calling out for her coop mates so I moved her into the quiet basement and she just seems to be resting now. Still perks up and chats a bit when I come down.

I can’t see anything wrong with her eye when I check it or when she does happen to open it. I saw an older post of something sounding exactly the same and seems like they got better after a day or so(hoping that’s the case here!).. just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and any advice on what else I should do? They were out with two of the bigger girls yesterday for a little while so I’m wondering if maybe she got pecked at some point a little too hard 😣

Have you ever scratched your cornea? It hurts like the dickens, and you just want to keep the eye closed. Maybe that's what's wrong with this chick's eye. I would flush it with saline eye drops twice a day and maybe put a little dab of Neosporin in the eye. That should make it feel much better.

I can definitely agree. I had a chick do this too, but it went away after a few days.

Thanks! I’m wondering if that is what happened because after a nice long sleep in the basement she was normal and ready to go back to the coop this morning 😊
