I have an 8 week chick that just lays there. Seems one leg works well but the other doesn't. She was walking up until about a week ago. Any suggestions?

I also have two 8 week old chicks that are doing the same thing act as if something is wrong with there legs and have droopy wings. they are I.S. A.'s have never seen this before, Iam still feeding them medicated feed Layena.

My husband and I went to tractor supply to get some tetracycline which is an antibiotic I've used before. When we got home I mixed up two gallons of that and added some electrolytes and vitamins to the water also. We took a shring and put some of this liquid in it and made the two sick ones drink it. One of them got up and started eating. I'm going to call Michigan State tomorrow, as the man at tractor supply said they might have the answer. Will let you know what they say. If anyone gets back with you about this please let me know also. Good Luck

I called Vet Clinic without seeing the birds they gave me an educated guess Marek's it is not cureable. If they make it they will be amune to it. Only one might make it the other two are not a good.

We tried something new today. 2 cups apple cider vinegar heating in microwave for 2 minutes. Add 1/2 cup molasses and stir until mixed. We made this last night. This morning my daughter put 1/4 cup into 1 gln water. I went to put all the chicks in tonight and she was standing. Not all that well, but standing nonetheless.

At 8 weeks old, it could be a vitamin B deficiency, something they ate that's bad, moldy, or Aspergillosis from breathing mold or fungus. Or Marek's. If it's Marek's, where did your chicken get it from?

The chick was standing probably trying to poop since molasses acts as a laxative in chickens. For a constipated chick I would recommend applesauce. Use the search box and look up splay or spraddle leg.

Msswede1 can you describe how the leg is moving? Is she dragging it, limping, or is it twisted outward like a slipped tendon? Two-coops, I've never heard of Layena medicated chick feed. Purina Layena is layer feed for adult hens over 16 weeks, and medicated feed is for chicks, usually a starter/grower. Layer feed should never be fed to chicks under 16 weeks because it has too much calcium for chicks, and can cause gout later on.
