8 week old cockerel mounting?

I just attempted to mix my 8 and a half week old chickens with my 13 and a half wk EE pullets (they are almost the same size now). Normal pecking between them, and then the 8wk old cockerel kept trying to mount one of the EE pullets! He started crowing last week. It scared the pullet so bad. I ended up separating them because I was worried about her. He did pull feathers out. Is this normal? They are in a pen where they can see each other and even some pecking between the groups between the chicken wire. He's never attempted mounting the pullets he was hatched with... normal behavior? Should I keep them separate, or will it be ok to mix the groups?

He's just an early developer. The pullets don't like it cause they're not even close to laying and think he's immature, but he's not doing anything wrong. Males develop before females (in your case far before females)

Yes, but monitor closely, and if his behavior escalates, remove him until the pullets mature.
