Just curious, is it usual for an 8 week old silkie to not have much of a crest? I’m thinking Eclipse (this silkies name) might be a cockerel, but I’m not certain yet.

It’s probably not a great quality silkie, i got it a local feed store, but I’m just a little curious.

I’ll post pictures. The silkie in question is the same age as the other two, who have crests starting to grow.

(If you want to guess their genders, check out Here)

Eclipse is the black one.

There’s also a blue and partridge.

Thanks in advance!

Ok, I don’t have a ton of experience, do you think it will grow in later, or will Eclipse always be like that? I don’t care all that much, they’re pets and I’m not planning on showing them, is it possible Eclipse has a slow feathering gene or something?
It might grow in very small. I don't have a ton of experience either, so I'm not sure.

Did it ever grow in, lol? 😁
Oops, sorry! Forgot to update. I think it is growing in. Right now they’re 16 weeks old and Eclipse has a cute little tuft coming in. Here’s a few photos from 15 weeks. It’s a bit used to see the itty bitty crest, but it’s there.

That's weird. Just genetics.
