First of all I am in Alaska and it's been warmer in the last month than previously. I have 6 chickens all hatched last June and they have been thriving. I get 4-6 eggs a day even though it's dark and winter here. But for about 5 days now I've notice one of my chickens has her feathers fluffed up like she is very cold and she is just standing by the side not active. Then yesterday I found her in the coop while all the other chickens are out. She was on the perch but she is very slow to react.

I brought her into the arctic porch where I have a large dog crate with straw and food. She just stands in there. I don't see her eating or drinking or moving much at all. It's warmer in the porch and I thought maybe she needs some warmth and ?

    Any suggestions?

She passed this am. Closing this thread

    Welcome to the forum!

I'm sorry to hear about your sick hen. It's definitely concerning that she is puffed up. I definitely think she is more than just cold.

Are her eyes closed and is she sleeping most of the time?

You need to offer her food by hand if she can't eat on her own.
Electrolytes in her water will help. Also you can try giving her Yogurt and hardboiled egg to boost her energy and probiotics.

There must be an underlining cause of her symptoms.

    Is she laying?
    She isn't broody is she?
Any chance of parasites in your flock (mites, lice, worms).
Check her vent, any blood or maggots?

Sorry for all the questions. Perhaps posting in the "Emergencies/Diseases/Injuries&cures" forum will offer more help.
    Good luck.

    Out to pasture
Was she laying before? Has she stopped? Is it possible she has an egg stuck inside (called egg bound)? You could put "egg bound," in the search box to see if the symptoms match.

It sounds like you have a sick girl on your hands. Good thing to remove her from the flock. The emergency forum is the place to go and provide as much information as you can (the questions asked from the previous greeters gives you an idea of what to post).

Good luck to you and hope your girl is better soon!

Egg bound. What do you do to fix this? If this were the case?

    Thank you for your reply.
