am I right to assume that is a Barred Rock? if so yes, judging by the coloring only I would say pullet

Wow, this picture completely changes things! These are not Barred Rocks at all as Barred Rocks have yellow legs. I'm thinking you have some Black Sex Link cockerels.

X3 You might want to get good individual pictures of them and post in the What Breed/Gender forum https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this from the one picture the chick on the left sure looks like a cockerel from the amount of comb, can't see the other, but the size of the head spots is also suspicious.
