there was a problem today in los angeles.

princess jessica, a large white orp,
    [IMG]

    was in the nesting box.

blackaroni, a medium to large australorp,
    [IMG]

needed to get rid of an egg, and so started all the commotion.

first blackaroni tried to cajole princess jessica into just leaving
the box but it didn't work. so the black just went ahead and
squeezed herself right in there. i figure about 12lbs of chicken
    in that there box.

jessica couldn't stand it so she popped herself out and expressed her
displeasure and also her urgency to get rid of that egg. mind you, the
princess had been in the box for about 1/2 an hour already, with no egg.
stick with this one, the drama starts 2/3 of the way through.

as a side note, that was the fluffy lover standing by the fence
joining in the yelling. see picture below, notice the cute eyes.

eventually all was worked out in an equitable fashion, except for the foot
on the back and the butt in the head.

i remember i had a conversation with a friend of mine about his chickens.
this was before i had my own. he shook his head and laughed when
talking about the "nesting box". aside from the eggs, this is exactly the
kind ridiculous antics that bring a little levity to my city life.

The stockade fencing is a wonderful thing. I have my entire back yard done. Whenever i see the posts about dogs getting peoples chickens, i am so glad i made the investment. It was originally for the dogs because i did not have chickens at the time. But i know it is a HUGE part of the reason i have not lost a bird yet. I loved watching the clips and i love the name blackaroni.

I just laughed my backside off watching that. I have four girls laying and only one box right now. Two of them have no problem sharing (Its a pretty good sized box), the other two will absolutely not share. Have your neighbors said anything about the noise? :-D I'm worried about mine..my girls can occasionally get really loud!
