Hello!

My name is Michaela but I also go by "Potato".

I've been wanting to start raising chickens for awhile now and finally bit the bullet!

I have 5 chicks(?) They are about 4 to 5 weeks old,(are they still considered chicks??) ((I have been calling them meep meeps)) and I know almost nothing! I have been reading and researching like mad to make sure I am doing things right, however I'm sure a lot of it just comes from experience? (i hope!)

Anyways, I don't know how often I'll be posting, but I have found myself already doing a lot of browsing and I am very thankful for all the help so far! I would love any basic advice that anyone thinks would be helpful to a beginner that they remember having trouble with when they started out. :D

So again, hello everyone! Me and my meep meeps (Potpie, Rosemary, Thyme, Dill, and Pickle) are standing by and thankful to have found a forum of friendly fellow chicken people.

Hi Michaela and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. Yep, your little ones are still considered chicks, but it matters not what you call 'em as long as peeps know how old they are. Experience is indeed the best teacher, but the more you read, the less likely you will be to make the more painful mistakes.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre https://www.backyardchickens.com/newsearch?search=learning+centre and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you

All the best
