a little help determining what types of chickens we have...

Our chicken hatched these 2 from eggs.. Mom is on of my Red Hens, Dad is a Barred Rock.
We named them Ebony and Ivory, we got a good chuckle out of one white and one black chick.
Why is there such a difference in the two of them? They are 7 weeks old.

You only have one roo?? None of the hens are recent additions?? I read somewhere that a hen can store sperm for up to a month from a rooster and still have a viable egg...I don't know how that white one turned up. Very interesting!

ETA YOu have a very pretty flock and that rooster seems to know he's gorgeous! Very manly!

are your hens red sex link if so then one of the parents was white so that might be how the white one came to be, I think I read that red sex link use a rir hen and white rooster so the white might be a recessive gene that both mom and dad carry I would guess not sure a newbie here. but those 2 chicks are very cute.
