Hello, All. I am new to BYC, and I have a few questions about Peafowl. I haved loved peafowl ever since I saw my neighbor with some blue Indeon peafowl, but I do not know how to raise peafowl myself. So my questions are:

1. What size pen do I need for two peafowl if I wanted to keep them in it all the time?

2. Where is the closest guy to North West AR that breeds White Peacock?

3. Is there any good books or links that will help me get started?

4. Will 2 1/2 acers work for the peafowl if I wanted to free range them?

5. Will just one peacock and one peahen work, or do I need more peahens?

6. Are peafowl as easy to raise as chickens?

7. How much does one peafowl eat a day?

8. Can I have just one peacock, or do I need more than one?

I would appreciate any feed back. Thank You!

Hello, here are some places to start...

For peafowl breeders in Arkansas:

It looks as though there may be more options in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma; I don't know how close to the edge of Arkansas you are.

Also it is very useful to check on your local craigslist, for example:

(not white peas, I know)

For lots of general information about pea care and housing, see the sticky index (link below).
Also, the search function in this forum works really well if you are looking for specific information (for example, about enclosure sizes).

Thank you so much for the websits. I love Legg's Peafowl Farm. I may get some peafowl there.

Thank you so much for the website!!! Does anyone know some good books that I could read to get the answers to my questions and more questions that I may have along the way? With your knowledge what breed of peafowl would you suggest I look for( for a beginner)?
