Hi, my pseudonym is 'Cockahoop' and I am writing to introduce myself. I am a sixty three year old man and I have kept chickens for a dozen years with varying degrees of success. I currently have seven Pekin Bantams (six hens and a cockerel) and a further seven crossbred hens and two cockerels kept in two separate runs. I started keeping poultry because a builder friend of mine, clearing a site for development, came across a large 1930s field hen house and in a mutual moment of weakness he offered it and I accepted it. After renovation it became home to a half a dozen partridge pekin bantams and through natural breeding rose to a flock of twenty before 'charlie' killed them all, so I started all over again. I know little about poultry health issues because I have been very lucky in rarely having illness in my flock, until the last year or so. However I will ask questions relevent to these issues on the appropriate sections. In the meantime I will continue to read the many informed and interesting posts on this site, as I have off and on for several years.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm sorry about your losses to Charlie. It's always sad to lose some of our flock.( If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is lots of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

I liked your intro, particularly the reference to "a mutual moment of weakness", I understand that completely. So sorry to hear of your earlier losses. Make yourself at home here, you probably already know your way around but if you need help, just ask. Members are very good about helping each other out.

Thanks for joining us!
