what gender grows tail-feathers first? pullet or cockerel? thanks
It depends on the breed and the individual chicken. Typically, hens. I had a wyandotte hen that didn't get tail feathers until after 12 weeks, though - that is nearly unheard of except for that particular line of hatchery wyandotte with poor feathering genetics. However, I would not rely on that alone especially if you're looking for the hen.
I'd maybe search leghorn sexing and see what comes up from previous queries. I think I remember seeing that males get their combs particularly early.
Yep, it depends on the breed, strain, or individual bird.
