a really dumb newbie question, but i will ask it anyway

    If I were to get some fertile eggs and hatch them myself, could you put the new born in the chicken nesting box and would a hen then adopt them?

    Only if you have a broody hen. and then it's best to put them in at night.

    Generally speaking I wouldn't think that would be such a good idea...
