Alright, so I remember this chicken I had when I was a kid: it looked like two chickens merged into one.

One side of it's beak was yellow, the other side was dark gray; it's legs were two different colors, and it's feathers were different colors on each side of the body, split perfectly down the middle. It was like some one had taken two chickens, split them down the middle, and then put them back together wrong. We hatched him out ourselves, and he lived until at least adulthood.

None of his parents or siblings where like this just him.

Does anyone know what caused this, or what it is called? Thanks!

    This is my mom's chimera.
This is an old pic. I will try to up date.
Her color seems the same on both sides, but if you could see she has a lot more black on one side and if you look at her vent, one side is white skin and other side is yellow skin.

Funny this should come up. I was clerking at our State Fair yesterday. As the judge looked at one frizzled cochin he commented on the condition of her wings (poor). As he handled the next one, he opened one wing and much, much nicer. Then he opened the other--not a frizzled feather at all. On closer look, no frizzled feathers on that side of the bird, but on hte other side, they were all nicely frizzled.

We didn't look for other differences, so I cannot really say if there were any. It was white on both sides, though. I meant to take a photo today, but forgot my camera.

There is a rooster named Tang on here somewhere that is frizzled on one side and smooth on the other. I'll try to find a link.

Love the pics - chimeras are way cool. Happens with humans sometimes too.

Quote:That is so cool! As long as I have had chickens, I've never seen this splitting down the middle. Way cool!
