A wheaten Marans, an Olive Egger and a silkie walked into a bar...

And we are wondering if we got any girls in the bunch. Also wondering what color our Silkie might end up? We’ve never had then but I was thinking buff? Same with the olive Egger. The farmer said Maran Roo over a black or rust Aracuna. =?

They're a bit young to sex, or at least for me because I usually do comb. Newbie alert!
But my guess is the Marans and Olive Egger are pullets and the silkie a little boy.

A bit early yet, updates in a few weeks would be very helpful!

However, with the Wheaten Marans, you should be able to tell much earlier. Plumage color is a dead giveaway long before comb and wattles develop. I actually was able to determine the genders of mine within a little over two weeks after hatch. Same goes for my Wheaten Ameraucanas. If the shoulder patches and chest feathers come in black, you have a cockerel, and if they're either red/strawberry blonde, you have a pullet. It's nice and simple!

And I do think your Silkie is Buff. All your babies are super cuteness, AND you'll get some lovely eggs if they're girlies!

Please wait until the first two are six weeks, then post pics of the comb for sex. Silkies are slower maturing, so please post pics of the crest, full body, and the comb with the crest pulled back, at 12 weeks.

Silkies are best sexed at 4-5 mos. of age, like difficulty with early Polish . Sometimes you can't even tell then - have to wait for eggs or crowing.
