Last May 14th my wife, my 2 boys, and I brought home 8 baby chicks. We didn't know much about chickens..just that they were not too hard to keep. They lived in our kitchen in a wooden box I made them for a few weeks while I built a coop. (Building a coop takes WAY more time than you think it will take) Here's a little pictorial of our girls over the last year right up till shots I took today. I'm happy to say we've had no tragedies, no sick birds, and all 8 are laying like crazy. Here's a very short video of them on day 1 in a Wal Mart storage bin 4 weeks later in the wooden box I made them: The start of the coop: The coop grew over the next few weeks: Until finally the coop was ready and they moved in: The girls continued to grow and grow: Added a hopper and changed the coops interior a bit: Then the NH winter set in: The girls did fine all winter and are now full grown.. We are getting 5 - 8 eggs a day and all is well with our little flock of 'back yard chickens' (these last few were taken today) .
