hi does anybody know what to do when a chick has been abandoned because my hen sat on three eggs and they all hatched but then later on when the chicks were about 3 months old two of them died and now i have one left but the mother hen just ignored him and we brought him into our home and he sounded upset so got the mother and we brought her in too and now they are in a box together and i don't really know want to do with them they seem okay now

oh and one more thing when do chicks become adults if you know want i mean ?

    hope you can help

At three months of age the chick is old enough to be on its own. Maturity varies with breeds. Most mature at 20-30 weeks of age. One of my serama hens has left her chick and it has not reached 4 weeks old yet; it is doing fine.

Mama is done being mama, she is weaning the chick. At 3 months she has mothered longer than a lot of hens do. Has she raised the chick around a larger flock or were they separated from the rest of the flock all this time?
