I had a broody duck hatch out a clutch minus one egg. After 3 days she gave up on it but I candled it and it was alive. I put it in an ice cream bucket on a baby towel with a heating pad around it. I'm spraying water in there four moisture. It's been inside for 3 full days and it had internally pipped about 48 hours ago (I could see the beak and hear peeping). No sign of external pip. Still lots of movement, but am worried babies conditions for hatching are less than optimal. Should I do anything to try to help? I could see yawning 24 hours ago so wasn't concerned yet, but am starting to wonder.... thought and advice please

if its been 48 hours since internal pip i would push a dent into the egg, and start picking the shell away untill i found and cleared an airway to its bill. starting at the aircel obviosly

All that discoloring is blood, thats not good but dont give up yet. Keep us updated

Definitely put a pip hole in the egg to give it air. Without the proper humidity the membrane and shell are probably to hard to pip out of..

I also agree, I’d make a hole and find the bill.

    Good luck!

IMG_2922.JPG Bill is out. This little one is a talker. I think it might be having a hard time breathing though, it's making clicking sounds when it breathes. :hmm

Was any blood visible when you opened that?

No blood visible. Should I go bigger?

Well you could try to zip it out as natural as possible and it will possibly be ready.

I made the hole a little bigger. Can see the inner membrane well now. Some thick mucosy blood on the inner membrane.
