Hello! I have 3 red comets that have been laying consistently since July. Yesterday when I collected eggs, there was one that was less than half the normal size and dark brown in color. The only other layers I have are silkies and one bantam frizzle that lays small cream-colored eggs. I guess my question is, did a red comet indeed lay this egg (I'm assuming so!) and does it indicate a health problem or was it just a fluke? I get occasional double yolkers from one of my red girls, and shells are usually a little lighter...so is the shell darker because it's so small? Any insight appreciated! - Just want to be sure there is not an underlying issue!

I've gotten a few tiny eggs like that and they're so cute! They are often called "fart" eggs! It's just a fluke and nothing to worry about. I also noticed the tiny eggs I've gotten were darker in color.....
