I have a question about the sex of my two silkies.
The two chicks are now 16 weeks old (two days short of 17 w.o.).

Jethro is all poof. You can't see his/her face. When you pull back the poof over his face there is no comb development, you can barely see little wattles and a tiny speck of the torquiose earlobes. Jethro follows my turken cockerel everywhere, with the rest of the (known) pullets. I think my turken cockerel has tried to mate Jethro, but it may have been a dominance thing. At this point, all the pullets are resisting the turkens advances.

Ellie Mae doesn't have as much poof. You can clearly see his/her face. Not much in the way of comb development, but tiny wattles and the earlobes are very clear. Ellie Mae avoids the turken as much as possible, preferring the company of my cornish Xs. She even bosses the CXs around. The turken has never tried to mate Ellie Mae, to my knowledge.

I think Jethro is going to be laying eggs one of these days and Ellie Mae is going to be crowing.

    What do you think?

I don't have silkies, but from what I understand, the boys poof is more spikey and the girls have more of a cotton ball look.

Here are some pics. Excuse the barbeque in the background. We didn't mean to include it, but we just picked the handiest place to take the pics.

    This is Ellie Mae:

I think at this point, they both look like girls.

I'm going to guess both pullets, just by their attitudes and crests.

    Just a guess!!!!
