Acted like she would lay but didn't-concerning?

I have a 16-week old Red Sex Linked that started laying last week. She laid 3 out of 4 days and has been a champ. This morning at the expected time, she was in her nest and I could see her baring down. She sang her egg song and continued to act like she would lay an egg. She covered herself with straw, continued to bare down, and this went on for about an hour. Then, she left her nest and went to drink a lot of water. I was there the whole time and never saw an egg. I've checked her a few times since. She acts normal, but no egg. Is this normal? Should I check to see if she's egg bound?
