In the Brooder
I bought some day-old chicks for the broody hen to adopt. I did some research online. Most say sneaking them under the hen at night. Some say introducing them during the day. I decided to give it a try.
I held out the baby chick to the broody hen. She FREAKED OUT. She immediately got up, screamed, and ran out of the box and disappeared. I've waited for an hour. She has not come back to sit on her eggs.
She is a black australorp. Supposed to be the good mother kind.
I am a little afraid to try again tonight. The hen might kill the chicks. Should I keep trying?
Apparently this is how you break a broody hen.
