My chickens aren't laying yet, but my neighbor offered me advice for when they start.
He said he had a lot of problems with his chickens eating their eggs.
He said he has his nest boxes facing the wall so it's dark.
He puts shavings down in the bottom of the box.
Then he gets like note book paper, and rolls it up in to tight balls, and
fills the nest box with them.
When the hen lays her egg, it sinks down into the balled up notebook paper, and then it's not there for them to see anymore. He said it also keeps the eggs cleaner because if the poop it is absorbed by the paper.
I just figured I would share the info. Hope it helps someone.
I know I will keep it in mind.
