Hi Everyone! I am a kindergarten teacher that has been successfully hatching chicks in my classroom for 10 years. Now I raise chickens at home (for the last 7 years.) I need some expert advice because I just cannot come up with a reason for a problem we are having with one of our teachers. This is her 4th year and every year, her eggs do not develop. She is receiving the same eggs as all the other teachers (8 classrooms worth), we have bought her a new incubator, new egg turner, and now a new thermometer. Her temperature is always right on. She is doing everything she is supposed to do, but each year her eggs get what I call the "death ring". When we candle the eggs, you can see that the embryos began to develop and then they stop. Instead of healthy blood vessels, there is one circular blood vessel around the egg that indicates that it died! This happens EVERY year for her! Does anyone have any idea of why this could be happening? We have tried everything we can think of. We have tried putting the incubator in different places within her classroom, as well as replacing her equipment.
This poor girl is devastated and doesn't want to participate in this unit anymore! I am so frustrated because they see me as the "expert" and I can't help her! Now I'm coming to the real "experts"! What do you think???

Wish I could help. That's the reason I haven't tried to hatch eggs. I couldn't take the nonhatching. Hope someone helps out.
