My husband and I and two kids are going to be spending two weeks in Virginia this July ( coming from Australia). We are looking for reasonably priced accommodation for a few days in the Colonial Beach area and for a few days in the Shenandoah National park. Does anyone have any suggestions of lodges, cabins or cottages to let? Would be very grateful for your thoughts.

Jane,

Have you checked out the Virginia Tourism website?

http://www.virginia.org/

They have great info about what to do and where to stay here in Virginia. Hope you enjoy your visit. Virginians really are friendly folks!

Thanks sfw2. There are some good ideas here. We are thinking about a few days at Colonial Beach and a few days at Luray so that we can see sea and countryside.

If I were you I would go to VA beach over colonial if possible then you could hit williamsburg too. If not maybe ocean city MD (just not a big fan of Colonial Beach). I would also search like expedia or one of the discount travel sites for ideas. I grew up in MD right on the VA border and love the mountains. Out of all our vacations I still am hooked on Tennessee. I loved it there. We have 2 vacations planned this year, a week in Williamsburg, VA beach area in June and a week in Hilton Head Island SC. in august. I usually try to rent timeshares from people, but have used Travelocity before and had good luck. Hope you have a great trip, and I would love to go to australia!
