So, I've done some basic scratching around on the internet in search of a detailed chart of silkie chick growth from hatching day to six months of age. I could have missed something, but didn't find what I'm looking for, so I thought I would bring this up here and request a thread that might help others out too in the near future.

My idea is this: Take a side-by-side picture of a silkie chick and a soda can. Do this once a week from hatching day to 6 months of age. It would help give everyone a better prospective of growth size and age, don't you think? And this could also be used for other breeds as well. People do it for dogs, but I've yet to find anything as detailed for chickens. Is there anyone out there breeding silkies that would like to try this little project? Or, has this already been done, in which case could someone point me in the right direction?

Unfortunately, my chicks were bought already hatched, and I believe they are about 2 weeks older than I was originally told. However, I can't find anything close enough to help better estimate their age.

This is such a great idea. I just got silkie chicks without knowing their age. I suspect some are 2 weeks and some to be 3 weeks.

That is actually VERY helpful! Thank you for posting those pics and that is such a cute little baby! Sorry for the delayed reply. I had surgery and only just back onto the forum after weeks of recovery. I find that I have to re-learn how to navigate the site because it's much different on a computer than the mobile screen I'm used to.

Sorry for a late update. Here was the same chick as my earlier post at about 8-9 weeks old (bo peep, left. nutmeg, right)

I don't have a good recent pic of nutmeg, the blue silkie. So here is Bo Peep at 12 weeks and you can see nutmeg a little on the left.

And here is one of the newest members Silver belle who is about 5-6 weeks old. She is a silver partridge and she has the most insane mohawk right now lol

My older silkies are pretty much finished growing so although the pictures aren't the best and all consistent, hopefully this was helpful for some!

I'm thinking about doing this with my chicks when they come in next month. I've got a hand full of sebrights, a GSL and a BR coming.... Would be interesting as I've not been able to find much info out there on the subject.
