I have read a lot about the Reeves Pheasant before I got a pair from Ohio a few months ago. All of the stories tell of aggressive cock birds. Well, today, I can assure you. They were correct !!!!
I was out feeding the pheasants this evening, and all was well until I entered the Reeves pen. I don't know if he was just being protective or just the bird from hell !! He sure knows how to use his spurs in short order. I was taken aback a little. Normally he just watches me in the pen, today he went way beyond brave. He was almost totally out of control. But he got fed anyway. I'll just have to rethink how to feed that pen. Can't get rid of him. Much to pretty and why give someone else this lunatic!
Just a little something to help others if they desire a pair of Reeves pheasants. Read whatever you can about them, and believe the aggressive cock bird story, and order a shark cage to feed from. You'll need it !!

A piece of pvc pipe leading to his feed dish should do the trick. The more aggressive they are,the better breeder they seem to be.Don't get rid of him if you want to hatch reeves out,he will be a potent breeder for you.Youi may want to get him a few more hens also.

I figure everyone knows not to add new birds to an established pen.I guess I should post that also.Add the male to the hens pen would be best. Thanks for catching that De Wet.
