My rhode island red Agnes is and has been laying her eggs under the fern. I asked our local expert about this, asked if I should block it off, she said no,
let her lay her eggs there if it wasn't too difficult to collect them. It's not, but today it is raining, so she's under the fern (not completely dry there) laying
her egg while the other 3 are in the coop avoiding the rain.
How can I encourage her to go into the nesting boxes without traumatizing her too much? She's already dramatic about being the bottom ranking hen in
the flock, so I don't want to upset her if I don't have to. Or should I figure out how to put a little roof area over that fern to protect her from rain?

    Yea, I know - they're spoiled.
They are my entertainment and escape from the house (adjusting to retired life;-)

    Thanks
    jann

Thank you for your reply - that is exactly what I "want" to do.. I just didn't know if it was the right thing to do, or if I should try to force her to go into
    the nesting boxes.
I will investigate some kind of mini-nest just for her.
    Thanks again.
