I have a friend looking for good quality Black Copper Marans and English Lavender Orpingtons. 4-6 pullets or hens of each. Located about 30min south of Huntsville, AL but will travel some for the right deal. Thanks!

Many hatcheries will ship and can fairly well determine gender for very fair prices compared to most breeders or back yarders and without risking bring any disease with them, the way started birds may. My pet chicken carries both breeds...

So does Cackle...

And Meyers...

As a passionate breeder I can tell you that truly less than 10% (more like 1%) of all birds that hatch will be top show or breeder quality regardless of who you order from. Meyers is my preference out of the ones I posted for MY route. But I would order from any of them if gender and bio-security are considerations.

Alternatively... smaller breeder with both breeds but no gender guarantees that I know of...

The Orps and Marans I got there a few years ago were mostly fine. The Faverolles both had bent toes.

With the recent New Castle's disease virus outbreak and quarantine followed by mandatory euthanasia of all backyard flocks inside the 3 counties zone... PLUS another BYCer admitting just today to receiving and hatching illegally shipped eggs. (I asked for verification of their statement but no response yet).

Best wishes to your friend getting great birds! I love the Marans but Orps were overrated to me. :fl

Thank you for your input. I'm NPIP and would be placing others that are as a top consideration for her. She isn't looking for show birds, but also better than hatchery quality. Preferably something in the 6mo-1yr range.
