Check the bottoms of the feet. If yellow, she's a Jersey Giant. If white, she's an Australorp.
I'm having a heck of a time posting pics...i keep getting a weird error message. So this chick started off solid black and now is 99 percent black with just the faintest brown tips on her breadt feathers. Thoughts?
I have another black one about 50% bigger than this one that I am thinking is a JG. I will check the feet, thanks!
So the bottoms of her feet are black. With one yellow toe tip. I guess that makes her a most likely Jersey Giant? Though she is much smaller than the other much larger chick who has white feet bottoms! Maybe that is what they mean by "slow maturing"
Yes, Jersey Giant. But don't let the name worry you. Hatchery sourced birds do not get very large at all. Most top out at about 5 pounds.
