what are some of the treats that 3-9 week old chicks can have and are there any plants, treats or anything else i should avoid? can someone else please tell me what mash is and why would i use this versus the crumble i am using now?

Mash, crumble and pellets are just the form of feeds -- mash is finer than crumble, and crumble is finer than pellets. Some baby chicks do better on the mash til their mouths get a little bigger. We can buy layer pellets or layer mash around here, for example; same formula.

When my chicks were about 2-3 weeks old, it was still a little cold outside, so I brought them into the kitchen for a "field trip." I took a stalk of broccoli and shaved off the very tips of the little florets so that there were tons of little "broccoli dots" on the floor. Within minutes, there were no more green dots--I didn't even need to sweep afterwards!

I did, however, need to follow the little stinkers with Clorox wipes to clean up the poo on the floor...

I didn't leave them on the kitchen floor too too long because the wood floor seemed tough for them to walk on--a little too slippery. I guess I could have put down newspaper to avoid the poo problem, but it wouldn't help much with the slippery issue.
